Analog Disabled in FFIX

How do I enable the analog stick in FFIX? It's always off, and says as much when I start of the game. I've tried configuring the controller for dual analog and dual shock, but neither work.

Hit F5 turn turn on analog. I think that is covered in the "docs" subfolder of epsxe.
