I seem to be getting slowdowns in MGS quite a lot, it dips to 20fps. This only happens in ePSXe though, the game runs perfect with PSXeven. But I can't play with PSXeven because it keeps crashing after I kill Revolver Ocelot :( So is there any way to fix FPS drops in MGS in ePSXe? Specs are E6600, 8800GTS, and 2GB RAM.

* its a cpu affinity thing, set cpu affinity to 1.
kill Revolver Ocelot
* you can't kill him, he will not die anyways.
- Which GPU plugin are u using with epsxe/PSxeven

I'll try that, thanks
Oh woops I didn't mean kill him, I mean beat him in the beginning of the game in the second lower basement in the room with the fat guy.
I'm using Pete's OpenGL v1.77
Edit: I've set affinity to 1 and no performance change

I was messing around with MGS in ePSXe 1.7.0 and here's what I've found out.
Graphics: OGL2 is still ****e, unfortunately. OGL1.77 seems to work brilliantly though--here are my settings.
Plugin: Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.1.77
Author: Pete Bernert
Card vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
GFX card: GeForce 6800/PCI/SSE/3DNOW!
OGL version: 2.1.2
Resolution/Color:
- 640x480 Window mode << set this to whatever you want, obviously
- Keep psx aspect ratio: on << not needed unless you're running a non 4x3 aspect ratio--I'm running 1280x1024 fullscreen so I use this
Textures:
- R8G8A8A8
- Filtering: 0
- Hi-Res textures: 0
- VRam size: 0 MBytes
Framerate:
- FPS limitation: off << YES, TURN IT OFF! 1.7.0 has an internal limiter--press F4
- Frame skipping: off
- FPS limit: Auto
Compatibility:
- Offscreen drawing: 2
- Framebuffer texture: 2
- Framebuffer access: 0
- Alpha multipass: on
- Mask bit: on
- Advanced blending: on
Misc:
- Scanlines: off
- Line mode: off
- Unfiltered FB: off
- 15 bit FB: off
- Dithering: off
- Screen smoothing: off
- Game fixes: on [00000080] << PC FPS Calc
Sound: Eternal 1.41, Directsound, SPUasync > Smooth, and MGS special game fix.
Make an ISO if you haven't already. Much smoother than playing off CD.
btw...I just realized that I might not even have the AGP drivers installed for my mobo, wtf??

now with all this MGS4 fever ,i decided to try the emulator.Since MGS1 PC version doesn't work on modern because i heard it uses SOFTWARE mode with 8bit graphics
thx to you guys i solved the sound issue by using EternalSPU 1.41 plugin,
with SPU IRQ on and SPUasync audio method+async mode smooth.
the framerate limitation to 25 it's now solved thx to hushypushy, telling about that F4 key framelimitation bla bla bla.
but now it runs too fast (60FPS), + those FPS limit,Autodetect,FPS Limit(10-200) options seem to be useless when in use with MGS.
they don't do nothing.
im saying this because i wanna set the FPS limit whatever i like (45-50) so MGS can be smooth...not too fast, not too slow.Optimal
if anyone know how to...then leave a post :thumb:

Use ePSXe v1.5.2 or ePSXe v1.6.0 instead of ePSXe v1.7.0.

EDIT : That's because ePSXe v1.7.0 uses auto fps limitation.

By default, the ePSXe 1.7.0 will have Frame Limit enabled. And if using Pete's plugins, Autodetec and Frame Limit will be enabled too.
To use the manual FPS limit setting, you can, while ingame, select the frame limit method using the Plugin Panel.

Or -If there is- running the emu with a CMD that disables the emu limitation so with that it allows the GPU plgs doing the trick.

Now how would I go about changing controllers in the middle of a game in ePSXe to defeat Psycho Mantis?

have pad 1 mapped to your gamepad as usual and pad 2 to your keyboard or something else, i believe that is how most people do it.
