I've had quite a number of save state files in my folder, i was thinking to clear some which i'm not exactly sure which save state belongs to which game. I tried to view the pic file which is recognized in quicktime format, but it says that it's not in a correct format. Is there any ways to view the save state externally? Thanks.

savestate image file is a 128x96 bitmap without a header.

You can view images if you open a corresponding savestate with a same name as the picture in PSXMemTool (http://psxmemtool.ngemu.com/PSXMemTool/index.php).
There was a tool specifically designed to manage savestates but I can't remember the name...

Edit: It's Moo's Savestate tool which you can get here (http://www.zophar.net/utilities/psxutil.html).
