Unable to save state

Downloaded epsxe for the first time (ver 1.70), when I save state the cmd window says "* SaveState Done!" yet when I try to load state nothing happens in the game but the cmd reads "* LoadState Done!". The change slot seems to work fine, I have cleared and reinstalled. Where do the save states get saved? What does a successful save state and load state look like? any help would be appreciated.

Forgot to mention running on a vista 32, laptop

Does this happen with ePSXe 1.6.0?

Havent tried any older versions. this is my first time with epsxe

the default save state directory should epsxe(version #)\sstates. make sure the folder and any files inside it are not set to "read-only".

edit- like hushy said, try it on either 1.6.0 or 1.5.2 because there is a chance that this is actually a bug in 1.7.0 that has not been noticed yet, although i have not run into anything like this myself with 1.7.0, both the official release and the betas.
