When ever i play a game and it's in the middle of a battle sequence (ex. final fantasy tactics , SRW Alpha) it speeds up tremendously during the battle sequence and i can't diagnose the problem, anyone have any idea's?

try configuring your video plugin. There are often options for these specific problems, usually able to limit the framerate.

Do you have a DualCore-CPU?
If yes, maybe thats the problem (even if I don't have these issues)
If you got an AMD DualCore, try the DualCore-Optimizer from the AMD-Website, even if you use Vista, it works (cause its just a boot-switch with "/usepmtimer" and another one, but I forgot that...)

I think hes trying to slow it down not speed it up lol. Can having a dual core cpu really effect a single core emu? 0.0 Wouldn't you be able to go in your card and settings and make rendering application controlled?oO

yes they can. in 1.7.0 this issue has been fixed from what i have heard but it most certainly existed in 1.6.0 and 1.5.2. i have seen this as the cause of performance issues for a good amount (not all though) of multi-core users. how it actually affects the performance varies, sometimes it will slow down and sometimes it will go too fast for example.
