View Full Version : early save state in FFVIII

There is some issue with my disc1 that I can't figure out. Every time I run the cd I start a new game and the intro fmv hangs about 10 seconds or so from the end. I tried running it from the iso I burned off of my cd1 and that cleared up some hiccups in the fmv but it still hangs up at the exact same point. I can get save points to load if I don't start a new game but I don't have any save points early on in the game. If somebody could get a game started and through that fmv and to the first save and upload the save file I would be super stoked. Thanks guys.

what version of epsxe are you using and what are you using for the plugin setup? if for some reason you are using 1.5.2, try using the -nomdec command switch. it seems that command switch is recognized in 1.5.2 only, i cant seem to get it working with 1.6.0 and 1.7.0 so if you use 1.5.2 you should be able to get around the FMV using that switch.

1- was that the first time you play your ff game on your pc, if so then probably its your CD Drive that can't get access/read correctly your PSX CD, try another drive (ask a friend or something).
2- Try Gamefaq (http://www.gamefaqs.com/), you can find many save-files over there.

This is my first time trying to get this running emulated and not on my PS.
I checked out gamefaqs and every save file that they offer near the beginning of the game are all with everything maxed out.
p.s thanks for replying so quick guys

what format did you make your image in?
Brimztone

I ripped it as a .iso using isoproducer.exe

make an image in .bin/.cue or .ccd/.img/.sub instead because that format you are using now is not good for psx games.

especially since Final Fantasy 8 uses protective markers in the subchannel.

Id rather by a new set for 10 bucks :p but iI really beat ff8 several times lol. Gave up on omega though. No way in hell a boss is wroth half an hour of my time when hes fighting maxed out characters. I'm still wishing 8 had break damage limit :p. Never did get around to playing that silly card game -..-.

he isnt that hard, but as far as i know the only way to survive his one of his attacks is by the "god mode"-like status effect that is recieved when using the hero drinks/holy war items. the hero drink/holy war are more ideal since they have a 100% success rate but the holy war is much much much better because unlike the hero drink, it effects all 3 members of your party instead of 1. the hero trial or holy war trial can be used too but i would not rely on those because they have a fail-rate. it may be possbile to kill it without those but i highly doubt it.
the best way to get holy wars is through modding the gilgamesh card (gives you 10). however you can get as many as you want by winning another gilgamesh card (this works for any rare card actually) by challenging one of the card group players on your airship. remember that you must complete their sidequest before disk 4 though otherwise they wont be there. in addition to that you wont see another copy of the rare cards in their decks until you must have modded the one you already have. you cant have one in your deck at the same time, even if you dont pick it as one of the cards you battle with in other words.

I know lol:p. Thats why I said I never bothered with the silly card game. I dont need the all character invinci to be him though. I have that girl and her dog for invinci and a quite a few auras and thingies that make me invincy(dont remember what there called). I have to retrive the save file off my friends pc anyways X_X. The one of my ps1 memcard is at the beginning of disc 4 and my ps2 wont read it anyway :p only pc ^^

Impossible. FF12 and 10 are 14 bucks on amazon...from sellers. 20 bucks for new retail. Final fantasy 8-12 are all 20 bucks retail price. With the exception of Final Fantasy VII for 70 bucks which I think is encouraging piracy lol. Unless your talking about pc version for 8 thats 40 bucks...
