View Full Version : Problem with Metal Gear Solid (changing discs)

Hi, I'm now halfway through Metal Gear Solid using epxse. The problem comes when I have to change discs. The game asks to change discs so I use the change discs option by pressing "Esc" and then choosing to change the ISO from file. The second disc loads, but there is no sound. The big problem comes when I try to create a save for the new disc, for which it does not allow me. In other words I am now stuck on the first disc.
The same happens if I press "Esc" during the game and then do "run --> continue".
Thanks for any help as I am trying to re complete the MGS games before MGS4!
Edit: Just to let you know, I am using epxse 1.6 in linux. Using XVideo driver 1.17 and P.E.op.S OSS Audio driver 1.8.

So you cant save on the second disc...I have no clue what so ever. But maybe you could download a save from the internet when you are on the 2 disc already. Maybe you should change your settings, in some way...

Yeh I'll try to find a save on the internet, though it will change all the weapons I have. No other plugins seem to work. Well they could but I can't get into the configuration files.
Thanks, anyone else have ideas?

Try using save states.

Try using save states.
I saved the state using F1 once the 2nd disc had loaded with no sound. I then closed epsxe and reloaded it but with the second disc. I then pressed F3 to load the saved state and it loaded, but once again with no sound and the inability to save....

If you cant find a solution download a save on the 2 disc. Then use the pec cheater and add the weapons and equipment you had on the first disc. Then you are on the 2 disc with music and hopefully the ability to save :thumb:

You could also try loading ISO from a virtual drive, like Daemon Tools or Alcohol x%

I did try that, though it did not run properly, perhaps because what it loads is a .img file, not .iso

PEC is win app only, well is there a linux PEC or PEC.dll?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2- Check your memory cards, if they're not full (means not used all your free blocks).
3- switch to ePSXe v1.7.0 (keep your bios/memorycards and savestates), or else downgrad to ePSXe v1.5.2, i played the whole game with it without problems.
4- ePSXe & its plugins are a very sensitive app, so missing sound/crashed or noisy is a fact that you must live with.
5- Can't save with Savestates, check your path, dont make a long one (ex: C:\ePSXe\ePSXe.exe Not C:\Console emulation\Playstation\ePSXe no).

I will try downgrading, I don't think there is 1.7 for linux yet is there?
I know it's not my mem cards becuase I am still able to save on them/overwrite saves with the first disc.
Thanks
EDIT: I can't seem to find the 1.52 version of epsxe for linux? can anyone point me to it?

Is it impossible to load a Disc 1 saved game with disc 2 loaded? You could try another emulator for this, like PSXeve or PSX emulator, just to switch discs, save, and then go to ePSXe. Another emulator you could try is PCSX

I have tried PCSX, but the game doesn't even run properly, I will try and load the saved game and see if it works though. I have to wait until I get home.

Wow, we have the same problem at the same time, I found a solution.
I use Windows Xp and I changed the epsxe emulator for psx 1.11 emulator, I switch my saves (memory card saves) from epsxe carpet to psx carpet, then I loaded the game in this emulator and when the game said me that I need change the disc, I did that and the part of the disc 2 in this emulator works fine and you can save and switch back to epsxe :D
PD: Its really weird that nobody who replied here knows the answer to this problem when MGS and epsex are really old...

Wow! I just did something similar, I laoded the game in vista and loaded disc 2 with no problems, saved the game and transferred it to linux, though I can't stay on there because my sixaxis controller won't work. Now I can go back to linux with my working ps3 sixaxis controller!

i had the same problem with running this game on epsxe. here are the steps i did to fix this problem:
1. save game right after you beat sniper wolf on the memory card.
2. download psxeven emulator (The Emulator Zone - Playstation Emulators (http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/psx/) and put the bios in and all the plugins ( you might need a controller plugin if you are using a usb controller, i used harakiri, you can download it here The Emulator Zone - Playstation plugins & utilities! (http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/psx/psxplugins-tools.html)
3. Once you have everything configured and set up find the memory card that you saved your mgs save on in the epsxe folder and copy it to the memory card folder inside the psxeven folder ( when you copy it change the end of the name of the memory card from xxxxx.mcr to xxxxx.mcd.
4. go to the advanced configuration in psxeven and select the memory card with the metal gear save.
5. start disc one with psxeven and go into the hallway then change disc, press start to load disc 2.
6. Once it loads disc two then call mei ling and save the game.
7. Now you can choose to finish playing the rest of the game on psxeven or
8. If you want to go back to using epsxe then just delete the old memory card in epsxe folder and copy and paste the new memory card from the psxeven folder (dont forget to change the xxx.mcd back to xxx.mcr) then just load disc two and play.
9. then this should do it for you. enjoy!!!
10. if you have any questions then just send me a message on myspace.com/daviddanielruiz
