Now that 170 is released is this still the best sound plugin or has it been surpassed by the inbuilt plugin or other third party plugin?

there is no best plugin. in the end it all depends on the game/hardware combination.

Well last time I checked this plugin was the recommended for most games. Is this still the case?

for the most part but like squall said, it depends on the game and your hardware.

not always KOC buffer adjustment wouldn't go astray.

internal SPU Plugin with new Pete's GPU plugins are perfect.

Internal does have accurate sound but it's emulation is still far from perfect. Sound emulation is fine but sound effect emulation (Reverb) does not exist with Internal SPU. Once they add or if they add it it will be perfect. For now I still use Eternal SPU because I do like the reverb emulation with the sound.

have you even tried 1.7's SPU? i'm telling you now, it has reverb.

it does have reverb and this is specifically stated in 1.7.0s documentation:

"The internal SPU plugin has been updated to the 1.7.0 version. This version includes new effects like better envelope, noise, interpolation, frequency modulation, reverb and better synchronization between the core and the sound.

Hmm thats odd I wonder why it's not working. I used it and in FFIX and many other games I test there was no reverb where it should have been.

well its not fool proof by any means, but i got reverb in FF7 and FF8 as i was testing the beta, Jonc do you have FF9? or was that phil?.. i know phil has it. lol.

OK I believe I found the problem, the reason I wasn't hearing reverb with internal was because I was using save states. It seems when you load a saved state reverb doesn't activate. if I load the game and open a save file directly it sounds fine.

Squall-Leonhart
May 27th, 2008, 16:32
yes, because the save state doesnt contain loaddata for the reverb, sputiming changes or rumble state.

making a new state will work fine though.

we both have it. during the beta testing everything worked fine for me aside from the buzzing that a few others were reporting, it doesnt seem to be showing up in the official release though. everything sounds good to me atm.

The internal sound plugin is a massive improvement over the last one. Sound and reverb quality is excellent.

But just a few things regarding this latest internal SPU.

I made an ISO out of my Wipeout 3: Special Edition CD and i loaded the ISO directly into ePSXe via "File" --> "Run ISO".

Everything works well. CD music plays and normal in-game sounds are working fine. The issue I have with it is that the CD music is way too loud and I can barely hear ingame sounds.

I tried a few things:
1. Went to Windows Audio control panel to turn CD audio down. No effect.
2. Tried to turn CD music down in the Wipeout 3 options menu. No effect.
3. Turned in-game sounds up in Wipeout 3 options menu. Worked, but not anywhere near loud enough.

Also, as a side note, CD Music settings for Wipeout 3 are set to "random", but there is nothing random about the music. Each time I start Wipeout 3 and race on a track, the same music plays in the same order. It gets a little annoying when you hear the same tracks again and again.

Noticed something as well with Destruction Derby. Once you get passed the Destruction Derby title screen and into the initial demo, the music track stutters and gets stuck at the start.

In regards to the CD music volume, is there a way around this or is it possible to add a feature in the plugin to vary CD volume?

I tried using P.E.Op.S. DSound Audio Driver 1.9 but no CD audio plays at all with an ISO.

well most spu plugins do not allow you to control music and sound unless the games allow you to adjust the music and sound.

Psx is the only emulators that support hotkey to reduce and increase volume and xa.
my wish list is hotkey for all spu plugin like eternal spu and pete's spu plugins.

I also wish it have the sound multiplier like vba-m and vga.

Yes, there is no cd volume control for internal plugin. That's my fault :innocent: Is in the TODO list, sorry :D.

Hey no need to apologise. I think what you've done so far is superb. This emulator is a remarkable achievement. Thanks for listening, it's always nice to know a new feature will be implemented. :)

CDDA does not make use of the CD Audio volume control, as it bypasses this sound channel entirely, Instead, CDDA uses the WAV channel like every other channel.

Galtor, i'll post that in the beta board so you won't forget to add it.
