your computer is not currently capable of running epsxe, if you installed a dedicated graphics card, possibly, but at the moment you are sharing 8mb of ram with integrated video chip.

Try using pSX (http://psxemulator.gazaxian.com/).

well its the best you are going to get. if you want to use epsxe then you need to upgrade or buy a new pc, there is no way around that. and its not a question of quality compared to epsxe, the main difference is that psx does have the graphical enhancment features epsxe is capable of producing since it doesnt use a hardware plugin system, so it looks very similar to the way a game would look and play on a real psx. thats about it. its extremely simple to set up and just about any game that runs on epsxe will run on psx.

Well, your graphics card is rubbish, and therefore hardware rendering (the good graphics) is out the window. You can use a software plugin in ePSXe if you want--go to Config > Video and config the software GPU.

If he has 8mb onboard graphic I think the only plugin that can perform is E}{'s Soft Driver (I once had messed around Epsxe with a computer like that)

i experienced Petes OGL2 on my old Geforce 2 last night, after finding the 1.x plugins failed to render FF8 FBE's and OSD. the performance was reasonable.

You have to understand that your PC is fine as far as the specs go (Although I truly wonder if you have 248 megs of ram with that processor...its been MANY MANY years since 256 was even the entry level ram prices)

you simply need a graphics card....

almost any will be fine - even a Geforce5200FX from 5 years ago works well for hard psx emulation to get 90% of the graphical quality

but the new computer it like my school computer i fix it up now ready to go i know epsxe work fine i it because i play ff8 on schools computer and it was perfect sound graphics and game play

what version of epsxe are you playing the game on for the most part, 1.7.0 or 1.6.0? if you are using 1.6.0, change the 200 FPS setting you have there into 60. also what kind of cpu are you using, single or multi-core?

both of you simply need graphics cards, i had the same problems with ff8 and fable, went an bought a radeon 9800 and it solved all of the problems.

A decent computer isnt that expensive nowadays. I got my 3800+2ghz with 800 and something ram for 400 bucks. The integrated isnt that bad either (can run pcsx2 with around 50-80 percent.) You should be able to get the same computer for around 500 0.0. If your not gonna buy a new one simply use psx......

I'm having the same issues and I wonder if I have the same problem.

Its your mobile intel lol......try turning off that gleem (aero or w/e) in vista.
Turning that off will stop choking your graphics card unless you have it off already >_>. Why are laptops provided with intel?? They trying to rub in that the common laptop isnt good for gaming? -_- I hate intel, nvidia and ati own -.-

I'm using 1.7.0, and I'm running a dual-core pentium.

I feel stupid, but I don't understand what "turning off that gleem (aero or w/e) in vista" means. The Mobile Intel thing appears to be the only display driver on this machine.

disable (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-aero-on-windows-vista/) the flashy vista interface (the 3d thing). im not sure how well this will affect performance (gaming performance at least) but do it anyway.

Windows Aero - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Aero)

aero is the 3d GUI (Graphical User Interface) that vista uses. disable it because it might help your performance to some degree.

he has 248 mb of ram because 8 mb is allocated to the integrated graphics from his total 256mb.

jonc2006

ok so saying psx emulator is better than epsxe

its not better, its just different. the thing with psx is that it tries to re-create the way a game would look/play on a real playstation as close as it possibly can, so it doesnt have a plugin system that allows various enhancements. some people actually prefer this so it does not mean that it is inferior to epsxe just because the graphics are not as flashy. if you want to play games with visual enhancements then you would want epsxe but if you are looking for an emulator that stays true to the real thing (or if your hardware does not meet the requirements for epsxe and its plugins) then you would want to go with psx.

goonkid93
June 8th, 2008, 00:52
so you use psx emu

jonc2006
June 8th, 2008, 01:27
ive used epsxe for years but i have used psx in the past as well, both are well made emulators. imo its a matter of preferance on the visual styles they offer, it has nothing to do with one actually being better than the other because both are pretty much the same when it comes to compatibility (which is what really counts in the end).

If he has atleast an geforce 2 or similiar, epsxe 1.6.0 will at will run just fine (50-60+ fps in most cases) on his pentium 3 - using petes open-gl pluggy and no overly fancy effects.

Atleast my previous old (read ancient) p3 @ 800 mhz with a gf-2 ran happily with a properly configured winxp and plugs :)

True, the quality is the same as a Playstation (except for some very minor sound glitches), but who cares when I can enjoy Final Fantasy 8 with it :D
