I've seen that none of the snes emus has reached full speed and as I was sitting and thinking that there must be a way to simple easy way that nobody has thought of and this is my conlusion.
To get more speed why can't we just overclock the dc?
Someone should have enough knowledge and ability to create something like softFSB or something for the dc and or problem would be solved. (I hope it's as easy as it seams to me right now)
As a bonus it could make DivX run faster than it does now.

Well that a new one ! I don't no if it's possible but , it's woth a try !

It would be a royal pain in the ass, you would not be able to oc through software, the internal clock would be totally goofed up, and I'm sure the list could go on. It isn't a simple matter of just jacking around with jumpers or anything like that. You'd probably have to solder/cut some connections and to find out what connections those are would also be a pain. And who knows how stable it would be if you could actually oc, or if the power supply could support it. You'd also probably have to oc the sound cpu I believe, which would be yet another annoyance. All to run a snes emu at full speed too?! I'd be tempted to venture into it just for the kicks, but I don't even own a dreamcast and am too poor to be replacing messed up ones if I did own one.

I think overclocking DC would give serious timing problems...

it sure is possible to get an emu running fullspeed on a dc...look at bleemcast...it's just seems to me that many programmers sorta forgot that you can make a fast emulator. Example: NeorageX on the pc runs fullspeed on a p166...callus even on a p100...yet NesterDC doesnt run fullspeed on a Dreamcast, which has 200mhz and dedicated hardware even.
Of course my logic could be all wrong but that's what I think.

At old times the programmers squeesed all the horse power from the computer to get the game run (C64 games). And now even nes emulators don't work at fullspeed on 200Mhz, Nesticle was an expectation it was the first and still fastest!

Im sure that overclocking the dreamcast can only do damage to the system, I think is better let it as it is, and improve the emulator ^^

Is it possible for a freeware psx emulator to run full speed on DC?

that depends on the programmer, not if it's freeware or not. :)

I've done a bit of oc'ing on computers and I've done a bit of research. The Xbox xan easily be oc'ed, but since it's a console it would just make the game go faster and make it unplayable.
And oc'ing in software is the only way to do it on a dc since you would want to be able to play your dc games too. As I said I've had a bit of experience on oc'ing (my cpu runs at -20C) and the hardware won't take damage if you just oc a bit at a time and since the dc is based on the powerVR 2 chip, mostly known as Kyro 2 (that's my graphic card) you won't get much out of it anyway. I would be amazed if some one get much more than 15MHz, but since it's a 128bit console that might be enough.
Anyway cooling is a must and and I do agree that better speed is can be reached with better code and coding for the dc is quite new and is bound to get better in time. Oc would just be a temporarly solution and not final as it does stress the system over time.

sorry, hairybudda! That question is a bit dated. Find me on your forums as "Tidus"

Well what the bloody hell did you want us to say? I already explained earlier why it would be difficult/impossible and why you wouldn't want to. It is extremely probably that the only way to change the fsb is through hardware. To change it through software would require a good bit of knowledge about the architecture of the system if it was possible. You need to do a bit more research I would dare say.

Why do you have to be so negative?

Negative, yes. Realistic, also yes. Remember, gerbilcannon never said it was *impossible*... it's just extremely hard to do. On your PC, the architecture is designed in such a way that overclocking is easy... all you need is fiddle around with jumper settings, or SoftFSB. Now on to the DC..... jumpers? I doubt it.... the DC's not designed to accept a new processor/upgrades (after all, that's what the jumpers/SoftFSB are for right?). SoftFSB? Someone has to write something like that.... but how? Remember we're talking about the Dreamcast here, not the X-Box (which is a PC!).
And besides, after all that effort..... how much more can you get out of it? 10Mhz? 15Mhz? Is it worth the performance gains? Is it worth the risk?
Don't get me wrong, if it could be done, great. And if you've done some actual reading about *console* overclocking (note: PC and X-Box don't count ;) ), and if you could point me to those articles, I'd be more than happy to give them a read, and then give a more informed reply.

there are now two serious divx projects in the works... one released the other day runs at about 20fps with no sound... the other one which is yet to be released, i hear is running at some pretty good speeds for 320*240 movies...
Check out www.boob.co.uk for the d/l.

I've seen it, but 20fps is not full speed and what is a movie without sound ?!?!? But with 20fps so early it's looking very promising ;)

the projectmayo divx player was released and is running pretty well. with a couple of 320x240 Invader Zim episodes i used as tests, it did a good job of creating a decent picture with good speed, plus the mp3 sound was nice and happy.
