So i've tried a few plug-ins and the same result. Star ocean 2 will randomly lock up my system forcing a reboot. Happens randomly and at random intervals. Right now I'm using P.E.Ops Soft Driver 1.17 for video and bios scph1001.
I've tried a few and i'm getting the same.....anyone help me out?? Thanks

First you should confirm that its not an over-all bug, try runing bios and navigate through all its options and quite, if all works fine w/o system freez/lock up than its a problem with the game and you need to change your GPU/SPU/CDR plugins or even your Game-MEDIA (check if CD-ROM is not scratched / well cleaned ...etc).
Otherwise, its an OS bug and you should get ride of it, or it will not work

Laptop - Inspiron 5150
OS - XP
GPU - Nvidia geforce fx go5200 (64 mb ram)
1 gig ram
I know its a centralized problem, I've played a few other games and everything works fine. This is the only one where it will randomly slows down and locks up. I've never had this problem recently with my computer or anything wierd to note.
I just turned off DEP for epsx but havn't restarted yet. Will let you know how that goes.
CPU is mobile pentium 4 3.2 GHz w/ HT

all games are us
update - not just star ocean...started playing vagrant story and its doing the same thing : really laggy, and randomly locks up.
Regardless of video plugin, or settings, the same problem persists. I've converted the cd's to iso to see and still the same problem happens.
I'm at a lost guys

Since you have a laptop disable any power saving features.
You can also set power scheme to "Always on".
