D'oh! I recently experienced a massive computer failure and was forced to format my hard drive. One of the things that was lost in the process was the save file of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, which I was playing. I was on the last chapter when everything went kaput.

Instead of having to go through the tedious process of playing through the whole game again, I was wondering if anyone has a completed save file that I can use to pick up where I left off. Cheers.

Go download a saved game from gamefaqs, then convert the save using this website:
Savesgames Converter (http://shunyweb.info/convert.php)

Uh... it doesn't seem to work. I downloaded the save file for the North American version, which has a .dst file extension. Since .dst isn't listed in the Savegames Converter, I figured it was the same as .duc/.dss and I simply renamed the file extension. After converting the file to a No$GBA .sav file, the file size ends up at 512kb - unusually large compared to all my other .sav files. Anyway, I made sure it has the same name as the rom image and ran the game. All I see is a "NEW GAME" option and my .sav file is overwritten, now at a more sensible 6kb. What's going on?

You will have to ask about the author of that site.

Hi, the same exact thing happened to me! :(

So I downloaded the .sav file above...what do I do now? Where do I put it?

You put the save files in the Battery folder.

Okay, I did that. What do I do now? It still doesn't have a Load Game option in the menu.

Set the correct save type in the emulator, then select "Save Options." Close and reopen your emulator and you should be able to load the save.

Also, the save needs to have the same name as the Game. For example, if the save is 'Example.sav' The game should be named 'Example.nds'

I have a question. I have never done save files before, so I downloaded the zip folder from wasabie and I got the save file. I started Phoenix Wright already and it created a save file. What do I do with the existing save file? Actually, better yet, could clearly explain what to do with the save file, please?

Also, what do you (imlost) mean by "setting the correct save type"

imlost

If you don't set the correct save type, you won't be able to save/load inside any game. There are games that requires you to have the correct save type right at the beginning. If you don't have the correct save type, then you will get an error saying to reinsert the card or something along that line.

You should read the sticky FAQ threads.

Oh thanks...I figured it out. I'm much relieved.

Actually, I have another question. Does anyone have a save file for the last day of the fifth case? I had just started the last trial day, and I don't want to do the whole case over again. I know it's sort of an odd place, and the chances are slim anyone saved there, but even if it's close that part it will be okay.

Hmmmmm has anyone successfully used the posted save file?
When extracted, it only is 4kb....is that a normal size for a save file?
anyways, i renamed it and stuck it in the root folder and nothing.

help!

Yes it's a normal size for a compressed save file.

After you renamed the save file to be the same file name as your game, did you make sure to set the correct save type and saved the setting before using the save file?

Yea i did,
I have an auto select save feature and I tried one other, maybe the auto feature doesnt pick the correct one. I have seen this before.
Can i reset and try each one, or do I have to put the save file in each time and start new?

Try setting the save type to Flash 512Kb and save the setting, then close the emu and copy/move the save file to the Battery folder.

Hmm whats this battery folder?
My linker (DS Linker)
doesnt have one.

You are using no$gba to play the game, right? If so, after running a game on no$gba, the emu should create a folder call Battery inside your no$gba folder.

n0$gba?
sorry this may sound dense, but what is that?

imlost

/me facepalm

No$gba is an emulator use for playing gba and ds games. You can find out more on what an emulator is here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Console_emulator).

Ah I see,

I think I know where things are going wrong.
I know what an emulator is, I was confused cause I am not using an NDS emulator.
I have the DS Linker flash card and am using the NDS version of Ace Attorney.

The thing is, the save file that you downloaded is used for the emu.

Edit: I don't have much knowledge in exporting/importing save. You can try creating a thread on the handheld discussion section of the forum.

yea I see that now, explaining why I questioned it being so small.
I did find one for the NDS at 256k, but I am having similar problems.

I already put the sav. file into BATTERY, Renamed it: ram and sav. file as Phoenix Wright.sav and Phoenix Wright.nds Set the emulator as 512kBytes, But I don't see a case 5. If this goes on, I.... I.....:hdbash: :hdbash: :PCmad:

Um... did you download the save file off some website? If so, then you most likely need to convert the save file first before you rename it and put it in your battery folder. You can convert your save file here (http://go.ngemu.com/?id=673X1258&url=http%3A%2F%2Fshunyweb.info%2Fconvert.php&sref=http%3A%2F%2Fforums.ngemu.com%2Fno-gba-discussion%2F100243-anyone-have-phoenix-wright-save-file.html).

Also, which Phoenix Wright game is it?

Website says it dosen't need any conversion.

Phoenix Wright Ace attorney, the one where Mia classifies Larry Butz as Harry Butz(Hairy Butts) in case 1.

Usually, you will need to convert the save file first before you can use it in no$gba. I have no clue as to what flash cards uses .ram format; therefore, I can only tell you to try searching for another save file instead.

I downloaded the save file of Justice for All that was posted on this thread and placed it on the Battery, but its not working (I already changed the cartridge backup media and tested with all of them). Can anyone explain to me step by step what has to be done ?

The filename of the save has to match the filename of your ROM (excluding the extension).

Sorry, but I don't really get what u mean...could u explain it, in details if possible ?

1) get no$gba.
2) get the aforementioned rom.
3) check the name of the rom you place in the SLOT folder.
Example: Phoenix Wright - Ace Attorney.nds
4)Do you see the ".nds" extension at the end of the name? If yes, go to 6), if not, go to 5).

5)google -how show file extension xxx- , where -xxx- stands for your operating system. Follow the instructions and make those extensions visible.
6)Grab the savefile you have and place it in the BATTERY folder
7)rename the savefile to the same exact name of the file you placed in the SLOT folder previously, without the extension (example: Phoenix Wright - Ace Attorney)
8)add a ".sav" after the savefile name (example: Phoenix Wright - Ace Attorney.sav)
9)start the game
10)thank me

On a sidenote, I've got plenty of working savefiles, yet they're all starting from a particular chapter (example, chapter 5).
I seem to be unable to go back to the main menu and choose chapter number 3, which is the one I was trying to play, since my old save file is gone (I've only completed the first 2).

Is there anyway to do this, or do I have to find a chapter 3 savefile?
If so, could any of you please make my day (night) and upload it?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I'm such an idiot. All it took was hitting "new game".
