Cons and pros betweens ePSXe and pSX
I've been using ePSXe since version 1.5.x, I thought it was the best emulator, with Bleem/VGS on second place.
On my first thought, pSX was just a plain emulator, with only very basic options... Which I thought was not good, so I tried it and... it's much better than I thought. The Sony Computer Entertainment logo makes it look like a real PSX, I realize I've actually seen it alot...
I like the pad configuration window, ePSXe's is pretty dull and annoying.
The graphics configuration is simple, no 3D acceleration unfortunately, but I think it isn't really necesarry unless you fancy HQ gfx.
The sound works great, better than the SPU's in ePSXe (psemu). I didn't notice any stuttering/choppyness during Final Fantasy IV, FF4 had choppy sound in ePSXe, even with a 1gb ram. I guess it's the compatibility of pSX that makes it perfect at this area.
Very detailed status display, it shows alot more than ePSXe's FPS display.
The CD Image path is neat, no more browsing for ISO's, or mounting images into virtual drive, simple said: loading a game goes quicker.
pSX is a very good emulator, but at this moment not for those who like fancy 3D graphics, 2xsal filtering and the likes. pSX seems also more accurate than ePSXe, I know it...
Only thing I would like to see in future updates is more options for graphics, such as Vsync, system memory usage, and some filtering if possible =).
- CrAcKo,
just wanted to express my impressions of this emulator.
