Try Winamp 2 for audio and Global Divx player for video, both are very CPU friendly, especially compared to WMP. They are what I used to use on my 466 celeron, and still use on my 1.8 p4. The winamp I have, 2.91, can do video too, but I like GDivx better, plus it has the same winamp-style controls (ZXCVB).
