Yeah, the power of GFX card is very important. I played FFVII over one year ago with C500MHz & GF256 without battle swirl. It was fully playable expect some bugs. If I had a better GFX card then, maybe it would been much better.

I think your friend is not a nut, maybe he was just very busy. I won't play FFVII without sound. You're right, sound is important.
