Flarestorm uses a plugin system, so a hardware accellerated gpu plugin could work, but right now, it's still software me thinks. Currently, it's too early in it's development to compete with current windows/linux psx emus. A mac G5 would be powerful enough to use for emulation purposes, but would you need a $3000+ desktop computer to play emulated psx games?
I wouldn't really worry about windows/linux systems not being able to run emulated ps2 games. When a ps2 emu starts to play commercial games at the level of current ps1 emulation, we'll have better PC hardware and the emulators will be heavily windows/linux optimized.
