as far as i know it being region free has nothing to do with reading a xbox dvd otherwise a xbox us console could read imports with mod chips. u need hacked firmware to read it properly. i updated mine from the site where everyone gets their firmware upgrades but i dunno if my firmware i upgraded with was hacked. all i know is i had rpc2 and then had rpc1 after upgrading. i dont know what rpc1 is but if in any case you cant read pc dvds and only xbox dvds u can downgrade your firmware back to what u had to read pc ones. u can upgrade and downgrade as much as u want. hope i was of some help even tho i have a lot of ?'s. Also I know one of the xboxs uses a philips drive so my philips cdrwdvd2010 should work i have firmware 1.3.0 rpc1 caustik. so do u think it will read my xbox games now so i can make gdf isos
