I looked around and getting DVD stuff from XBox is both rare and expensive. Gameconsolerepair.com is sold out of their about $90 replacement kit. On the other hand, you can buy a new Samsung SD-616T DVD-ROM for about $45, probably less if it shows up on eBay. Check out this page to see how to mod it so that it'll read XBox DVD-ROMs:

There are probably other DVD-ROMs you can use too. It seems like a safer bet to buy a new DVD-ROM and thrash it than to go after an XBox one.

EDIT: The link describes how to mod a PC DVD-ROM to be used in an XBox, which should mean it can be used to read DVD-ROMs while in a PC too, but if not this one has been confirmed to be able to do that: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=3754
