Zerocopy- The attitude instead of gratitude is because quite frankly, that was a dumb suggestion. (Like when instructions that are
inside the box say "step one: open box, step two: find instructions".) If he had read my posts at all. A loose connection in the speakers would affect ALL sound from ALL programs, except for the modem speaker and PCI speaker. Since I clearly stated more than once that I'm not having sound problems with any other programs, a loose connection is very obviously not the problem.
nwagenaar- Unless something in boycott advance is changing the volume when it comes on, then changing it back when it shuts down (I've seen MAME do that with the num lock), the volume settings can't be the problem for the same reason that the speaker connection can't be the problem. If the volume got turned down too low, it would affect ALL programs, not just the one. It's possible that there's some odd little glitch in DX that's affecting just that one prog, although since sound works in the SDL version.....
Edit: I checked the volume while the prog was running and it was fine. I tried turning off frameskip, I tried various combinations of 1 and 2 of the sound channels, I tried reverse stereo, I tried using bios/not using bios, I tried having "skip bios" on and having it off, I tried turning sound off then back on again. (...and yes, I reloaded the rom after changing the bios settings.) No luck with any of it.
