Basically your issue is the 3d Linux drivers then, as in not being able to install them...
I remember SuSE 8 (when I had it installed) having some sort of automatic online updater program, (and since I no longer have SuSE installed I couldn't tell you the name of it for anything, yet I remember its existence) where it went online and found tons of software updates and auto-downloaded and installed them. The point is, one of these updates was for Nvidia 3D acceleration... so if you can find that updater program, see if it will download the 3d stuff for you and you should be set
