Actually... THEY DID!
I forget when, but it's pretty much common knowledge that Nintendo has a huge amount of cash laying around. Yamauchi-sama (former CEO), saw the example his father had made, and refused to ever go into debt. At one time, Nintendo almost faced bankrupty because Yamauchi-sama's father had too much debt to deal with. Thereafter, Yamauchi-sama always kept a large supply of money on hand, just in case there was something that needed doing, and they needed the capital to do it with. Iwata-san (current CEO), has no doubt been told to maintain this Nintendo tradition.
It's kind of funny, since Nintendo always takes flak for having that much money, and never spending it.
As for Sega, yes, they are getting back on their feet at last.
