Some games listed people may not think of RPGs, but I am listing them because I feel they have enough of a plot and RPG elements to qualify.

Best character in a lead role: Alucard (Castlevania: SOTN), Cecil (FFIV), Fei (Xenogears), Chrono (Chrono Trigger) and (BoF series)

Best villain in a lead role: Sephiroth (FF7), Kefka (FF6), Irenicus (Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn), Lynx (Chrono Cross), and Sin[(FFX) would say more, but major spoiler about what sin is].
