I could probably get away with 4GB (and usually do), maybe 2GB. I just like to have alot of RAM.

There's many reason people might have 4GB or 8GB of RAM. For one, Windows Vista/7 need more RAM than Windows XP (where 1GB can still be a decent amount if you're not playing the latest games, and 2GB is plenty), even if some of it is used for prefretching (or whatever it is those two operating systems do which is seen through their higher RAM consumption). Programs are using more and more RAM, and will continue to do so. People are switching to 64-bit versions (which, as a general and rough rule of thumb, are better with more RAM). People want to have more than they need for the future. All of these things combined make at least 4GB a good minimum, and 8GB an ideal setting, albeit overkill now (and for Core i7, 6GB is good, and 12GB can be achieved later by adding another 6GB, since I do believe it is still overkill now, as is 8GB for most people).

I liken 2GB usability to that of Windows XP (of course it depends on your own use, since 2GB may be plenty to some). It's still plausible for some, but fading out.

I was basically thinking the same thing, to a lesser extent (rather than not taking it seriously, I was hard pressed to be bothered). I know the questions are serious, but then just make a list of questions. You'll get answers faster and better that way.
