(obviously the quote doesn't mean you should know everything about the language within a few hours, but just good enough to work with it)

Whilst I only have the most basic programming knowledge I completely agree with what you said there. Although a language as completely different as C++ is does throw a bit of a spanner in the works as there's nothing quite like it when it comes to syntax.
