Get over it because they ain't worth your time and you should recommend they see a counselor before they are allowed back on the internet.

I think the elitist term is being used differently by different people. You need to differentiate between people that know what they are talking about and know it & people who think they know what they are talking about. From the outside they appear the same as they both believe they are right.
Obviously you have to use your own judgement to figure that out, sometimes you'll listen and you shouldn't have and other times you won't listen when you should. It's harder when it's someone like your boss that is telling you how to do something, you have to make sure you pull it off when you ignore them.
It's more difficult to learn from someone who isn't really sure if they are right, because their arguments will be too weak. If you don't challenge them, to help them find a better argument then it's no different to working in a vacuum.
People who get so upset that they consider violence when a complete stranger gives them their opinion on the internet, should probably seek help too.
