Well, thats an interesting point, and I do admit to a well known bias against what I call "senseless 3D". While I may unfairly knock off points from the playstation games for needless use of crappy 3D graphics, its never been a deal breaker for me. Definitely part of the overall group of changes that took place as the series entered the playstation era though, and combined with the other (IMO) unfavorable changes like the extremely heavy J-pop/anime influence, well, that is the deal breaker for me.
