There is a lot of pressure on Japanese people to be clever and successful. Probably the suicides are mostly teenagers not doing too well in exams and business men failing at being money making machines.

The French are just overdramatic. It's a French trait!

It is easy to understand why the suicide rate is low in Jamaica! The Jamaicans are universally well known to be extra laid back about everything. If you don't get easily stressed and don't worry about life's problems so much you are less likely to be inclined to commit suicide.

Basically those people that worry and take life too seriously are more likely to become depressed and consider suicide as a viable option to solve life's problems.
