I think its wrong. Why? Because just because something is wrong now does not mean it won't get better later. Now you may say that in some situations this may not be possible but
A: you never know. Science advances everyday
B: it affects others, not just yourself
C: your perception of your own situation may be skewed because of illness, trauma or a number of other different things.
If you really need to do something drastic to change your situation there are always other better options.
