ATi always busts out some drivers after a new card release that give it a big performance boost (supposedly the 8.8 drivers coming up give the 4000 series a nice bump). Unlike nvidia where either their drivers work or they don't. Never see much of an improvement with new driver updates, just **** breaking or **** staying the same.

However, what is really needed is compatibility updates. Such as ATI writing thier drivers to conform to the OpenGL specs. And stick to them well. But historically, support has been half-assed. I really wish ATI's OpenGL driver team lift thier game.
