Well you are wrong there...

Many Linux distributions do not use much more RAM than their previous iterations, this is because of their ingenious Kernel and very good memory management (hence kickass server OS)

Don't believe me? Take a look at their min specs (read'em-n-weep)

Usually it's up to both companies to work together on this (Microsoft sure did help NVIDIA with their ME II drivers), could be that NVIDIA and Microsoft are focusing more on ME II as it is being forced into nearly every new PC in the market. Aren't near monopoly's great?
