Most people with G8x cards probably bought them closer to their release dates. The cards are already EOL products meaning they aren't in production anymore. I'm not sure many with an 8800gtx stepped-up to anything, other than the few who did it for the 9800gx2, but those are probably the minority. The only ones left are the ones on retail shelves and whatever stock AIB partners still have around. AIB partners don't generally take products off of retail shelves for RMA's. That only leaves whatever stock they have left.
I wonder what options they would have then, if they couldn't get me another 8800gtx. Since they'd need to get me something worth the same as when I first got the card, it couldn't be the 9800gtx or 8800gts(g9x). Both are priced far lower than the 8800gtx when it was released. The only card that expensive these days are the 9800gx2 or 8800 ultra? They could always send me 2 9800gtx's since I did note during the RMA process that I have an SLI capable motherboard.
I checked newegg.com and they don't even have EVGA 8800gtx cards listed anymore. Pricewatch.com only has 1 EVGA 8800gtx listed. Looks like the stock of 8800gtx cards are simply drying up on retail shelves.
