Just playing FFX with an E8400.
3.0GHz are the point to get it nicely playable.
Yet, I liked the performance boost in pcsx2 a "mild" overclock to 3.6GHz gave me VERY MUCH .
To keep that very safe and stable you just need to buy 800MHz DDR2 RAM instead of the else sufficient 666MHz DDR2 RAM.
After fresh install CPU und RAM run at 333MHz.
Set the FSB to 400MHz and make sure that the PCI(e) bus won't get overclocked by that measure.
So just the CPU is overclocked and no other component... and the E8400 can really, really bare that.
For CPU cooling I didn't install anything fancy.
Just a very cheap - but none the less good and quiet - 12€=19$ Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro.
So running a E8400 @ 3.6GHz is veeeery safe and stable.
You don't even need to give the CPU more Volt or anything.
