Got an idea for you, while recording with whatever program, set your desktop to 16 bit, that should speed things up a little, on the recording there won't really be much difference in quality if you're going to be posting your videos on youtube or whatever. Windows media encoder has a feature where you can record only the specific window or area of screen. If you need help recording sound try finding the options in your sound devices for 'stereo mix' or similar, usually under sound in control panel.
