I am using PCSX2 v 0.9.4, and I found the following to work for loading U.S. saves into the UK version:

//Use (U) gamesaves [SLUS 20312]
patch=0,EE,00241434,word,24a56e60

I hope this helps anyone who was having trouble getting the patch to work.

I have a further question: Once I have loaded a U.S. save into a U.K. game, is there any way to "hot-swap" the patch so I can save it as a PAL game? Secondly, I noticed that the sphere grid is still the original U.S. version without the added abilities. Is there any way to fix this? (I realize I cannot switch to the Expert Grid in an already created game. I am referring to the extra nodes that were added to the Original Grid to accommodate the new abilities.)
