You can't play games that don't support analog controllers on a Playstation with an analog controller set to analog mode, either, and nor can you access the memory card editor or the CD player. You have to set the controller to digital.
The difference is that with an analog controller on the console, you can toggle the mode by pressing a button on the controller. With pSX, you have to change the mode by setting Type to Dualshock or Normal in configuration. But it's the same thing.
The reason why you can't play a number of Playstation games with a controller set to analog mode is the games weren't written to support an analog controller. The only way to do this would be by rewriting the entire game. Similarly, the console, although it supports analog controllers in games that support them, doesn't support them in its own functions.

You misunderstand. I was ON normal controller. It did not work until I took it OFF of normal controller and put it on dualshock and then changed it back to normal controller.
As it stands, I'm exactly where I started.
