its all about money.
if the 9800GX2 isn't too fast, then they still earn up to $200 more when people by SLI GTX or Ultra(heck)
the point is, that the 9800GX2 is 2 GTX? on 1 board, the problem with this, is that the 8800 considers the PCIE as a bottleneck when to much data is put through it, especially with the PCI-E 1 and 2 specs, theres a fair overhead preventing bus hungry cards such as this from reaching the full potential.
