gabest would have to rewrite his plugin in order to support openGl, its not like theres a magic line of code that says "renderer = openGL;" that ports the whole plugin to use openGL
so its easier for you to get vista than for gabest to rewrite his plugin using openGL.
if you don't want vista, you can still use gsdx9 which is compatible with the 8800gt.
if speed is your issue, XP w/ gsdx9 is still faster than vista w/ gsdx10.
but i noticed some glitches in gsdx9 that gsdx10 dosn't have, perhaps in the future those will be fixed. but if not, you'll just have to upgrade to vista.
(or you can always do a dual-boot with the operating system. thats what i did, cuz i don't really like vista either

)
