Yeah but Gamecube wasn't attractive. It had very poor 3rd party support, which killed the sales for it. And the $100 for the system didn't give them that much money either. Atleast they didn't call it Dolphin.
The Wii however, has some sort of online, It has better 3rd party support. It's designed for the Motion sensor. And its a "New way" to play video games. The Wii LOOKS different than the Gamecube, which is enough to sell the console.
I'd rather buy a Wii over a gamecube anyday. The gamecube IS a huge dissapointment for Nintendo.
And creating a new system isn't a joke its smart marketing. The only problem Nintendo screwed up on was the fact that there arn't many Wii's availible.
It's almost a joke that sony is trying to add a few more months onto the PS2's lifespan with a rip-off of a free Wii Game.
PS2 is a very powerfull game system. And what made it powerfull was the fact that it has well and beyond over 100 games avalible for it.
Gamecube does not. Nintendo saw this and made a good move by creating the Wii.
