Good point. However I have been using Vista for over a year now and I appreciate it's highly configurable User accounts, remote accessabilities and superior network handling. The way it handles networking is on par with linux. More closer to Linux than any windows in the past... It is a highly more secure OS. Like any OS, it's as secure as it's owner. Close the ports you don't use, and monitor the ones you do. Vista makes that easier. I can appreciate the fact that the GUI is nicer looking because lets's face it as windows users we have been drooling over Xwindows, Gimp and Mac OS Gui's for a few years and now we have an OS that actually functions.. Let me also say that it is way more stable than 2000 and XP. Combined. With a skilled user who keeps his OS up to date with protections from the latest exploits. Microsoft is actually pretty good about that. Remember how easy it was back in the day to compile pepsi.c or winnuke.c and bomb someones windows box to a blue screen? Now a days it takes a lot more effort.. so hackers are doing things in different ways. Exploiting software that is used on the OS instead of the OS itself. Kinda like the sendmail and apache backdoors for linux from back in the day. I also have used office 2007 for about 6 months.. i really like it. As an author i kinda prefer it to open office.. now. The other office series products were not as great as open office.. but now, office 2007 really impresses me. I am not really Pro- Microsoft.. hell I am not realy pro anything if you looked at my computer .. ahhaha I mean, hell i run OSx86! What i am getting at is that this OS should be tried.. give it the benefit of the doubt... Bill Gates has paid attention to why Linux and any *ix has been so successful.. aside from making windows an open source product - Vista reaches every other point it aims for. Sure it consumes more memory and processes... but thats why we are all going to get dual-quad or whatever the hell core we want... also because we all want to emulate a ps2 righttt? And that we want to buy an 8800gt when the price drops.. While the PS3 is in it's second year directX10 cards will flood the market from every maker imaginable and I think we all will want to ride that bandwagon. Hell, 20 inch widescreens at walmart are only 200 bucks! Our systems will make these console kids drrroooooll.. This is always how it works. The kids with systems have the upper hand for a few months.. Then computer technology doubles as per the golden rule of technology.. Then it's payback.. Vista and it's api shall throw a wrench in their systems gears of war. Wait till *****in Halo 3 comes out on Vista.. or even Halo 2 in a few months! Unreal 2007? Hellgate? These games will be _Powerfull_ on our computers.. Even a mediocre computer with a decent graphics card can produce better quality graphics than an XBOX 360 _ever_ can. Want proof? here: Prey: PC Versus Xbox 360 - Features at GameSpot
That is a link comparing a 1,000$ PC against an Xbox360. Well i wouldn't say
a grand .. maybe a few hundred bucks. The graphics _outshine_ the XBOX!
Everyone quit debating on whether this is going to be a good OS. This is
ultimatly going to be a Great OS. I doubt any of us will be using
XP for more than a year or two from now. Buy a new computer and you automatically are qualified for a free Vista upgrade. One other thing I shall give props to ole micro$oft is the tech support.. you can have someone log onto your desktop to help you.. Just hide the keygens.. LoL. You know what i mean. So don't knock it till youve tried it.. Vista flies on my computer ( look at my specs) There is only a 5% slower rate for directx9 apps and games. Compensate this with more ram and maybe a dual core and hell so what if the OS takes one more second to load. The games, the programs, The looks from the kids who blew 600+ bucks on a small blue ray game system will sell you on Vista. Vista will sell you on Vista.
