Hi guys i don often visit here but hoping you guys can help me out!
I am back to emulating ePSXe recently. With my new notebook i am running on windows XP. Good news, with some luck in configuration, i managed to run my old games like Xenogears and Silent Hill perfectly. However, the problem came when i emulated my fav. game. Klonoa 1. I love that game so much that i tried endless permutations to configure ePSXe. I downloaded every possible plug-ins and ran many times. Still it did not work out..
Finally, i got the idea of returning to my old computer which runs on Win98. I checked the configurations there and found these basics. Bios is the standard scph1001, video? the simple P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.16. Configurations of the video are Fullscreen mode 320X240-default, color is 16 bit, stretching 1:1, no dithering, use FPS limit, use frame skipping, disable scanlines, no other checkboxes checked. The sound: ePSXe SPU core 1.5.2. ePSXe CDR ASPI core 1.5.2. Ok, with the basics like this, i run the game PREFECTLY.
You may ask why not play it on the old computer? Haha..my old com is 8 years old has no sound, i lived in a mute environment for 6 months before i got another com.
Back to the topic, i basically discovered some stuff, or rather much about this things these few days. Firstly, i downloaded plugins that associated with my notebook, such as Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.8. This is due to my graphics card being RadeonX1300. my old com's graphics are Intel Extreme graphics onli. Graphics wise comes wierd stuff when i switch between default "nice" and default "fast". Get what i mean? when i switch to fast, it lags. i switch to nice, it runs slightly better but not far off from "fast". the difference is pretty obvious so i know.
Next, i dumbly perhaps thought that its the sound. (cause i measure laggyness by "Sakura" becoming Saaa....kkkkkkuuuuu..rrrrrraaaaa) so i downloaded all the sound plugins such as P.E.Op.S. Dsound audio driver 1.9, External SPU plugin-lite. By the way, I think my notebook is SCSI driven or whatever programming lingo you guys use. SPU or what, async or sync, i don't know.
Last but not least, i thought that it could be the cd-rom, most probably....anyway, because the led was blinking to how the game lags in rhythm. ( make fun of me guys XD). Ok..the original is ePSXe CDR ASPI core 1.5.2. Like i said it works on the old com, however, when on my notebook, this error comes out WNASPI32.dll. when i saw "32" i knew is some OS problem because i encounter it before. XP just can't run SOME games (but pls not Klonoa) Neither i wanna just play MMORPGs and silent hill onli -_-. Of course, ePSXe CDR WNT/W2k core works, but it lags too..btw its not just lag that's bearable and occasional game freezes. let me explain.
Klonoa loads up with "NAMCO" and "now loading". The words flash smoothly ( i even seen "now loading" lagging with other plugins as well so i know). Next up is the butterfly from the flower and klonoa finding the ring. This is the intro (not "new game" AMV). "lalalala" becomes "Laaaaa..laaa.lllllaaaaaa" the butterfly freezes, and next frame is dolphin frame! On some other "better" plug ins, the butterfly flys around and more frames are shown. But it skips a lot of frames too. After pressing start, the screen will transit via a "left to right wash". Start screen: Klonoa Door to Phantomile creep out instead of POP out. music lags too. The original music is " la la la la la laaaaaa..la la lalala" in this rhythm. But with lag its " laaalaaaa etc etc" the windmill behind spins laggingly. Now i noticed that after the music STOPS, the windmill begins spinning normally. To cut things short, cutscene of the plane crashing at the beginning was darn smooth (with no BMG but onli SFX ( maybe that's the key, with BMG it lags but with onli SFX, it doesn't. I disabled CDDA Sound to take away BMG but to no avail). After that when Huepow goes into the ring to start Klonoa moving (gameplay), it lags so no use playing.
Guys i am writing like a mad bull describing to you all because i am a die hard fan of klonoa. Ask me about Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil? I spent A WEEK configuring PSCX2. nah..its doesn't work but the prob is not now anyway.
Finally thanks for reading my thread, and

to whoever that read it and helps me too.
To make things simpler, the whole idea is that gameplay and AMV lags, cutscenes and the start screen does not lag. it would be so sad if klonoa can't run on win XP. Cause all of the specs in my notebook are better than my 10 year old com and i mean ALL.
