It is a "bad" thing to bump old threads, but I must say that particular converter sucks majorly.
gokudbz8: You might want to check the wiring on the PSX side of it. My PSX adaptor, straight from the shop, did not work whatsoever with a PSX controller. I took it back, swapped it, and the same problem again. I took the adaptor apart and found that a few of the wires weren't even soldered to the plug itself. Took the board out, re-soldered the (all white) wires and it has worked perfectly since.
Otherwise you'll be stuck with your controller pointing down/right, which is not fun, especially when you're doing a survival in Tekken 3 and King just crouches/walks forward and dies almost instantly.
On another note, don't buy a gamepad which has a rounded d-pad. My Logitech Dual Action also sucks majorly for 4-way games and hurts my hand after finishing just one game of Tekken 2. I had 181 wins on Tekken Tag survival mode using a standard Sony PS2 controller. No sore left thumb/hand there. The Logitech controller is good for games that don't use the d-pad (like GTA 3/VC/SA), but as soon as you run your emulator and play something like Super Mario World you'll have to pause it every 10 minutes and move your hand around. At least Nintendo and Sony had the right idea with 4-way d-pads.
